Cleaning Hacks for Hard to Clean Kitchen Appliances

Air fryer representing hard to clean kitchen appliances

The kitchen is one of the most difficult areas to maintain. With all of the different cooking appliances and nooks and crannies that come with each, tackling each task can feel daunting, and can even result in ordering takeout to avoid the cleanup. We’ve compiled a short list of some of those hard to clean items, and the best way to keep them clean so that you can easily care for your appliances without stressing.

How Do I Clean My Air Fryer?

This time-saving cookware is one of the most efficient ways to quickly whip up a tasty meal. Since hot air is the cooking method, it seems like there would be little to no cleanup. However, grease and fallen pieces from the food can leave a mess, which means you should clean your air fryer after every use. But how the heck are you supposed to clean all of those different bulky parts safely? First make sure that the air fryer is completely off and cooled. Remove the basket and wipe down the bottom of the heating element to remove larger crumbs and liquid. Next, dip a damp cloth in warm soapy water to wipe down the base thoroughly, and then do the same with the basket itself. Make sure to wipe away soap with a damp cloth and dry.

How to Clean a BlenderBlender used for a green smoothie

Another commonly used kitchen appliance that can be nuisance to clean is the blender. Residue can often get missed, leaving you with a smelly blender. The best way to clean a kitchen blender and get it smelling fresh is by filling the blender halfway full of hot water, and then adding a sliced-up lemon and all-purpose cleaner to the water. Run the blender for about a minute, empty the water mixture, and then rinse until there’s no soap left. This will leave your blender fresh and ready for the next use.

What’s the Best Way to Clean My Coffee Pot?

For coffee enthusiasts, it can be easy to fall into the habit of just rinsing out the pot itself before brewing a fresh pot of joe. Just like any other kitchen appliance, the coffee pot needs some TLC with a deep clean every now and then. The first step is to clean your brew basket and reservoir. Most brew baskets are dishwasher safe, but you’ll want to double check. Alternatively, use soapy water to clean out the brew basket as well as the water reservoir. The coffee carafe should also be cleaned with soapy water after every use to ensure it stays fresh. Now comes the harder to miss parts. You’ll need to make sure the inside of the coffee maker gets cleaned by descaling it every 3 – 6 months. To descale your coffee pot, mix equal parts water and vinegar and then “brew” this mixture as you would normal coffee. You may have to run several cycles to get the lingering vinegar taste out.

While it can be a nuisance to clean your kitchen appliances, your food will turn out better because of it, and your clean kitchen will leave you feeling happy that you did.
