De-Holiday and Reset Your Home for the New Year

The holidays bring so much joy and cheer, but they can also leave your home a cluttered mess after non-stop family, friends, and parties galore! From pine needles and glitter everywhere to red wine and chocolate stains, all of that extra holiday decor and feasting can leave your home in disarray. To help you start the new year off right, here are a few practical tips to help you clean up the holiday mess and reset your home for the year ahead.

How to Remove Pine Needles from the Carpet

One of the best parts of the holidays is picking out a beautiful, fresh Christmas tree to adorn your house with the smell of pine all season long. But by the time it’s ready to be tossed, dried up pine needles are everywhere, and can really be a nightmare to remove from carpets. The best way to tackle them is to wait until they are dry, then use a vacuum cleaner to suck them all up. You can also use a lint roller or rubber gloves to get the remaining needles out.

Get Rid of Glitter

Glitter can be a tricky one to get rid of, as vacuuming it up tends to just spread it around. To make sure you get it all, use the vacuum cleaner attachment to get the larger pieces, then use a damp cloth to wipe up the rest.

Remove Red Wine Stains

Long stretches of time confined in a house with relatives calls for some holiday cheer in liquid form, but spills are bound to happen. One simple method of removing red wine stains is to pour salt over the stain to absorb the liquid. Then, blot the area with a cloth and some white vinegar. Finally, rinse the area with warm water and a little detergent. Voila!

Getting Chocolate Stains Out of Carpet or Furniture

Sweets are also such a highlight this time of year, but that frenzied sugar rush can result in unwanted stains on the carpet and furniture. Depending on the surface, chocolate can be a tricky one to clean as well. Start by blotting the area with a cloth and warm water, then apply a paste of baking soda and water to the stain. Finally, rinse the area with warm water and a little detergent.
